It is a 6-minute walk from Relais Madeleine. It is run by a pianist and restaurateur; we eat very well and feel at home. It is undeniably a location that we take pleasure in sharing with you.
It has a cozy, slightly outdated atmosphere, in the chic literary style of the 90’s, where you can taste a house menu made with quality ingredients and enjoy efficient service.
What does the menu offer, with its promise of transporting us further south?
To start with, a good choice of 12 appetizers from € 14.40 to € 19. A superb beef carpaccio in a beautiful herb marinade touched my weak spot. It is also as pleasing to the eye as it is to the tongue.
We can be tempted by the Gravlax Salmon, which is growing in popularity, and also by duck foie gras with five spices, small ravioli with asparagus, basil sauce and parmesan for the “veggies”, the undispensible Mozzarella de Bufflone, candied tomatoes, grilled vegetables, and pico de gallo, including rizzoto with morels and Iberian cochonailles pork. And I have not listed everything. A very nice selection that might make you only want to order appetizers.
For example, there is roasted rack of lamb, pan-fried autumn vegetables and braised green cabbage (€ 37) and also St Marcellin filet of beef grilled with aromatic wood, baked apple (€ 33). The meat is very tender and perfectly prepared. The baked apple is a real treat.
The dressings are as elegant as the dishes, also slightly old-fashioned.
But that’s not all, because on the dessert side, the selection is equally as great. Patisserie is a craft and many restaurateurs outsource the work to good local addresses. So, do not be surprised if you are asked to order your dessert at the beginning of the meal.
8 desserts from € 10 to € 12, including an excellent chocolate fondant cake, a duo of crème brulée and flambée with Grand Marnier and vanilla Bourbon.
We cannot finish up without talking about jazz because every Friday from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, the owner and his 3 band members offer us a quartet. The owner is Jean-Luc Younes, a discreet pianist yet reminiscent of old Claude Bolling.
Finally, we have to mention the room, which in the summertime, opens pleasantly out onto a quiet street. The southern atmosphere is there. We close our eyes and Jazz in Antibes, it’s here!
